I don’t make decisions lightly, and I don’t make them alone. Big decisions like this are ones I take a long time to decide. I do things for the reasons that align with who I am, and I make sure that when transitions are made, they are done right.
This one was a hard one to decide. I have decided to leave QT2 Systems…. where I have been a coach since 2010 and an athlete since 2009. While I have been coaching since 2004…. my ride with QT2 as both an athlete and coach was honestly….. the ride of a lifetime. Through the past 5 years I have learned so much about so much. And I have made friends for life.
Why? That’s the hard part. I don’t have a good reason why. I have loved every second of it. I have learned so much. Coming back on my own is just something that feels right. Nothing bad happened, nothing was wrong. Jesse has treated me so good the past 5 years. He’s taught me so much and he’s been an incredible mentor….. it’d almost be easier if something was wrong. It’s just something I need to do for me…. it’s just where my heart is leading. Honestly…. that’s all.
QT2 has been amazing regarding my departure. Any other outfit would have had me sign a non compete, would have made it difficult…. but Jesse has made this transition smooth, open and he’s been 100% supportive. Sometimes when you decide to leave a place they close the door behind you and say…. good luck! Not so with QT2. I feel like I am standing between two doors that are open. As I am leaving QT2 Jesse wants to know how he can help…. and the door I am walking towards has people who want to be part of it.
It’s a kindness I don’t feel I deserve. But I am grateful for it. More than I can explain. It shows the classiness of Jesse Kropelnicki and QT2 Systems. I came to them because they were good people. I get to leave with them remaining my friends. I can’t thank Jesse, Tim, Pat, Tara, and Molly enough for the love, the friendship and the kindness they have always shown to me.
I would recommend if you can….. to give QT2 a try. It was worth the investment I made as an athlete and coach. You will learn, you will grow and you will meet people that will be a part of your life forever.
So what happens to Jennie and I? This is where things get exciting. Jennie and I really thought this out and talked about it, and involved Jesse. Jesse will take over as her coach. They will keep me on board to help with her swimming. Which means I still get to work with BOTH of them.
I was able to help Jennie win her first Ironman and earn a spot among the top 20 women in the world. If anyone is going to take her into the top ten it’s going to be Jesse. He’s the best of the best. It’s not hard to decide that he should take the reins…. I honestly believe it’s what is best for Jennie. As a coach you have to weigh what’s best for your own ego and what’s best for the athlete. He’s the best. It wasn’t about me, it was about what is best for Jennie. It wasn’t an easy decision for us to make… but it was the right one.
That’s not the end of Jennie and Mary though. This is where it gets even better.
Jennie and I are going to open our own coaching company. We are in this together. We made one hell of a team on the field…. and we know we make one hell of a team as coaches. This idea all kind of happened last Sunday. We are currently navigating the steps that any business needs to as we come up with our name, plan, website and our team.
Some amazing people have stepped forward asking if they could be a part of this new venture. From nutrition, to a team manager to a graphic designer who will help us create our logo and establish our website…. it’s grass roots, it’s full of passion, and it’s going to be amazing. We are taking our time to get everything in place, we want to make sure we do it right. We are not rushing.
In the meantime we are accepting athletes. I am accepting a limited number of athletes to begin in December, and Jennie is accepting athletes as well. If you are interested in coaching here is how to get in touch with us:
Myself: info at mary-eggers dot com (note the hyphen between mary and eggers)
Jennie Hansen: jennairun932 at gmail dot com
I do ask that you contact me via email as opposed to a FB message, my FB messages sometimes get lost and email helps me stay organized!
For now we will use this blog to communicate how we are rolling with setting everything up. If you are on Facebook this page is where we will base our new team.
Our goal in joining forces is not to be the biggest multisport team in the country. We just want to provide quality coaching and build a wonderful team. We will offer swim and run analysis services, clinics and camps and all of that. We aren’t even in a hurry. We want to build and establish something with as much love and thought as we can. So stay tuned!
Thank you Jesse and everyone at QT2 Systems for the ride of a lifetime. I have learned so much from all of you and I will continue to learn from all of you. More important though…. I am grateful for the people you are. You won’t find a better group of people than QT2. Honestly you won’t.
So here is to the future. I am one lucky girl. And grateful for so much love and support from all sides of the table!
