Whole30 wrapping up, beginning again

W

I am one day away from completing Whole30. I feel amazing. I am down ten pounds. My energy is fantastic and I feel …. amazing. So amazing that I am doing it again. My original plan was to go to the bakery on Tuesday and have a massive brownie. That sounded really good to me a few days ago. It doesn’t sound good to me now. In fact…. forgive me oh sweet tooth…. it sounds gross.

I know. Who am I and what happened to Mary?

I guess that was the point of all of this. To detox, to get rid of. To step into a new level of health. I certainly have.

To be honest I have almost dreaded the end of this. However it’s not the end. Is the beginning of a new Whole30 for me. This time I invite you to join me.

The biggest food I do not miss …. are grains. Of ANY kind. At first I missed toast and bagels. I don’t miss them at all. In fact I feel good that crackers and such don’t appeal to me. The processed foods…. they weren’t really that good anyway. Instead I crave mango and strawberries to satisfy that sweet tooth. WHO AM I!!!!!!!!!

My biggest struggle: fueling. I met with my friend Christina yesterday who works for Powerbar as a product educator. We talked a bit about some of their new products, specifically the new Energy Blends. I am moving into a ten day mini overload before I leave to go coach Ironman Arizona….. so I am going to need some extra fueling as cycling gets added back in this week. I have also consulted with several ultra runners and Ironman athletes who are vegan, paleo…. so during this version of Whole30 I am going to be experimenting with those fueling options. It may mean a bit of noncompliance on the fueling part…. so we will see how that goes.

This time around I am not necessarily so concerned about the compliance part…. but the fitting it to me and my life part. Except for possibly adding in something during fueling however… I can’t think of anything that I want to add back in that’d make me be non compliant. Again…. we will see.

Another challenge I have during this round is that I will be heading to Ironman Arizona to coach for 4 days. I haven’t traveled on this yet, so I hope to gather experiences and tips for you!

How about this time through Whole30….. you join me? Why not? We begin on Tuesday. It takes us through December 4th. Worried about Thanksgiving? Don’t worry. We will navigate it together. By then your habits will be established and not only can we eat the turkey….. we can make mashed cauliflower, butternut squash…. and I bet this time…. instead of feeling stuffed and overfed through a holiday… you feel like you actually enjoyed your food.

Imagine that.

Okay then. Welcome aboard my Whole30 boat. I have terrific resources to help you get started. I found a site called Clothes Make The Girl and I think this chick is fabulous.

1. What you can’t eat. Let’s get the negativity out of the way. Click here for what you can’t have.

2. Week one meal plans. This isn’t really a food plan but this girl outlines some ideas for week one. Click here.

3. Like our page “Cleaning up nutritionally” over on Facebook. It’s just a place for us to gather. Share struggles, ideas, recipes, motivation. We’ve got a few nutritionists and amazing people with experience who can help you with anything you need.

4. Sign up for the daily emails from Whole30. It’s $14.95 and worth it. Great tips and tricks are available every day.

I think a journey to improved health is worth the effort. I never thought I would be able to do this. I failed at my first attempt. But now I sit here one day away from being grain, dairy and sugar free and I feel the best I have felt in my life. My health issues are well behind me. My fitness as I rebuild myself as an athlete improves on a daily basis.

So join me. Tell me you are on board.

We begin on Tuesday.
